Each 1 mL of the solution contains dorzolamide hydrochloride equivalent to 20 mg of dorzolamide and timolol maleate equivalent to 5 mg of timolol.
Dorzolamide is a potent inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase II. By inhibiting carbonic anhydrase in the epithelium of the ciliary body, it slows the synthesis of bicarbonate ions. As a result, sodium and fluid transport are reduced, which directly decreases the secretion (production) of aqueous humor.
Timolol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker. Although its exact mechanism of action is not yet fully understood, it reduces the production of aqueous humor by blocking beta receptors in the ciliary body. Timolol does not increase aqueous humor outflow; it primarily reduces its production.
Indications
Rediop ophthalmic solution is indicated for the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or pseudoexfoliative glaucoma when monotherapy with topical beta-blockers is insufficient.
