Each tablet contains 200 mg of mifepristone.
Mifepristone is a synthetic steroid with antiprogestational activity as a result of its competition with progesterone at progesterone receptors. In women, at doses of 1 mg/kg or greater, mifepristone antagonizes the endometrial and myometrial effects of progesterone. During pregnancy, mifepristone increases the sensitivity of the myometrium to the contractile effects of prostaglandins.
During the first trimester, pretreatment with mifepristone allows dilation and opening of the cervix.
Indications
- As a medical alternative to the surgical termination of intrauterine pregnancy.
- For cervical softening and dilation before the surgical termination of pregnancy.
- To prepare for the effects of prostaglandin analogues during the termination of pregnancy for medical reasons.
- Induction of labor for the expulsion of a dead fetus (intrauterine fetal death).
