Each vial contains 2,000 IU of human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG).
Human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) has luteinizing hormone (LH) activity. LH is essential for the growth and development of normal female and male germ cells and for the production of sex steroids.
In women:
hCG is administered to replace the endogenous mid-cycle LH surge in order to stimulate the final stage of follicular maturation, which leads to ovulation. hCG is also administered as a substitute for endogenous LH during the luteal phase.
In men:
hCG is administered to stimulate Leydig cells and promote testosterone production.
Indications
In Women:
- Induction of ovulation in cases of subfertility due to anovulation or impaired follicular maturation.
- preparation of follicles for puncture in controlled ovarian hyperstimulation programmes for assisted reproductive technologies
- Luteal phase support.
In Men:
- Hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism (cases of idiopathic dysspermia have also shown a positive response to gonadotrophin therapy).
- Delayed puberty associated with insufficient gonadotrophic pituitary function.
- Cryptorchidism, except in cases resulting from anatomical obstruction.
- Preoperative preparation of ectopic testes.
