Each 100 ml of solution contains 500 mg of metronidazole.
Metronidazole is an anti-infective medicinal product belonging to the pharmacotherapeutic group of nitroimidazole derivatives, which act primarily against anaerobic microorganisms.
Metronidazole has antibacterial and antiprotozoal activity and is effective against anaerobic bacteria, as well as Trichomonas vaginalis and other protozoa, such as Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia.
Indications
Metronidazole 500 mg/100 ml infusion is indicated for use in adults and children when oral administration is not possible, in the following conditions:
- Prophylaxis of postoperative infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria, particularly Bacteroides and anaerobic Streptococci species, during abdominal, gynecological, gastrointestinal, or colorectal surgery.
- It may also be used in combination with an antibiotic that is active against aerobic bacteria.
- Treatment of severe intra-abdominal and gynecological infections caused by, or suspected to be caused by, susceptible anaerobic bacteria, particularly Bacteroides and anaerobic Streptococci species.
