Diclofenac exerts anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects by inhibiting cyclooxygenase activity and reducing prostaglandin synthesis.
The drug is used in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. It reduces inflammation and relieves pain. Diclofenac belongs to the class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). When diclofenac sodium is used in combination with opioids for the treatment of postoperative pain, it reduces the need for opioids.
Indications
Acute and chronic rheumatoid arthritis; acute and chronic osteoarthritis; ankylosing spondylitis; dysmenorrhea; exacerbations of joint and back pain; attacks of gout; pain caused by kidney stones; pain resulting from trauma, fractures, and other injuries; and for the relief of postoperative pain following surgical procedures.
